Ghana's Rise

Ghana started out from the Soninke tribe who were farmers but started to build their empire. Their empire is located west of the Niger river, north of a rain forest, and south of the Sahara desert. They became richer by the location they were in. To the north was salt and to the south was gold. The most expensive item at the time was salt until the Europeans came to show the true value of gold. Soon the rulers of Ghana banned everyone else from using gold nuggets so they were only allowed to use gold dust because they didn't want anyone to be richer than him. Another way they became rich as everyone paid taxes like: citizens, nearby tribes, and even people leaving and going for safer routes and for their military.

 Ghana's Decline

   1. The first factor was that the Almoravids invaded them in the early 1000s.
   2. The second factor was overgrazing. The Almoravids brought their animals who ate all the grass which left the soil exposed. When the soil became exposed, the wind blew it away or got burned by the sun.
   3. The last factor was internal rebellion which their citizens started to fight the empire while others fought from outside so the Ghanan empire was fighting two forces at once from all directions.

The Almoravids were a Berber dynasty of north Africa and are the ones who conquered Ghana. Down below is the Almoravid flag.

Up above is the Coat of Arms of Ghana. This was introduced on March 4, 1957, by Amon Kotie.

To your right shows a man who marks Independence Day. Down below is their flag.
